A Love Story

Ryan and I have been dating since March 2010. This last week Ryan asked me to marry him and I said "Yes"! Here is our story:

On Dec. 24th we started off looking at rings with a jeweler. They were all amazing rings! We found the perfect ring the first place we looked, so we decided not to waste time going other places outside of Logan. Ryan has a guy who is in his home ward that makes the rings for the jewelers. Since Ryan is such good friends with this man, we decided to go custom made with the same design as the first ring we loved. He spiced it up a little to make it even more perfect for us.

After 2 wax models and multiple weeks of waiting in anticipation, I had a feeling the ring was done. The only problem is there was no proposal was on it's way. January goes by. February arrives with a renewed hope that Ryan would ask me soon. After the first week I was starting to get antsy and nothing was happening. He is full of surprises and just keeps them coming ;)

On February 9, 2011, I went to Ryan's house after work to hang out. He had made me cookies and he was way too happy about them. I knew something was up. We were in his kitchen, hugging, his arms on top. He wispered "I have something to give you" and my heart started pounding (we are in his kitchen remind you!) My arms automatically start to hold him up as he is going to his knee. I start saying to him "Don't you fake it... Don't you fake it" He grabs my arms and through his smiling teeth breaths "I have to do this" So I let him get down.

Again, to my surprise, I see nothing but a hidious plastic blue ring with a painted on yellow stone. Yes, he got this out of a machine that he put a quarter in. Don't get me wrong, any 4 year old girl would love this ring. I was just looking for something a little more shiny...

After "the fake", Ryan asks me to go to dinner with him. I give in despite my dissatisfaction. "Good, but we have to go somewhere first". We get in the car and drive up cliffside hill where Ryan pulls over, plugs in his ipod and turns to a playlist he made me of "our songs". There is a beautiful view of the temple along with the Logan city and to top it off it starts to snow lightly. We get out of the car and hold each other to our music. What could be more perfect than this?! Again, he says "I have something to give you". "Don't fake it" I reminded him with a smile.

This was no 25 cent ring. Instead, an $8 ring from wal mart. "Do you want this one?" he asks me. I take it and say sure, and put it on my right hand pointer finger. He laughs and says "dinner time!" All I can think of to say is "I'm never going to trust you ever again!"

Driving to "dinner" he doesn't ask me where I want to go. Rather he starts up the hill by the temple. We pull in and he takes my hand as we walk to the front of the beautiful building. We start talking small talk and he starts leading us to the back of the temple. As the temple corner starts to fade backwards I look up and see a table with a white cloth, flowers (gerber daisies, my favorite), a picture of me and him, and a card with my name on it, covered with a blanket of red rose petals. I walk over and pick up the envelope and start reading. It not exactly a card, but a peice of paper folded into 4ths.

"Leisa, I love you more than anything in this world" it starts. More gushy words and "I love you's" follow. The last paragraph reads "Is that ok? Are you excited? Can you wait for our lives together to start? Wow, that is a lot of questions! But I just have one more..."

I turn around and Ryan is face to face with me. "I don't need an answer to any other questions except one..." He gets down on his knee. "Leisa Jean, will you marry me?"

All I could say was "Yes"

It turns out there is a more perfect place to get engaged than the top of cliffside hill with a beautiul view. It was in the back yard of the Logan Temple where we will be wed for all time and eternity on May 20, 2011.

I am so lucky to have Ryan in my life. I could not have asked for a more loving, caring, and just simply amazing man to share this wonderful journey with. My fairytale has come true!
